Da Nang Packing List: 4 Things Worth Bringing

Updated:

Da Nang is a convenient city to visit, and one of the most popular destinations in Vietnam — welcoming over a million foreign visitors each year. You don’t need a long packing list, but there are a few items that make a real difference once you’re there.

Da Nang Packing List: Top 4 Items

There are plenty of Da Nang packing guides online, these four items cover everything you need. If you need anything else in a pinch, everyday goods in Vietnam are reasonably priced and easy to pick up locally.

Sunscreen and Sun Protection

Sunscreen is the most important item to pack for Da Nang, regardless of when you visit. Even if you don’t use sunscreen at home, bring it. Da Nang’s UV index regularly reaches the highest level — “very high risk” — and you can get a noticeable burn after just a day or two of sightseeing.

Recent climate shifts have pushed temperatures as high as 40°C in the dry season, with some workplaces introducing flexible hours during extreme heat waves. [1]

Make sure to pack an affordable, reapply-friendly sunscreen as part of your Da Nang essentials.

Other sun protection items to consider:

Digestive Medicine

Digestive medicine (anti-diarrheal) is a must-pack for any first-time visitor to Vietnam, not just Da Nang. Vietnam’s tap water is not safe to drink, and most visitors experience some stomach trouble — often from ice added to drinks at cafes or restaurants, which is hard to avoid entirely. Even if you’re careful about raw seafood, ice is commonly added to coffee and beer, so it’s worth planning ahead.

If you’re joining a multi-hour tour by vehicle around Da Nang, it’s especially useful to have quick-acting anti-diarrheal tablets on hand. Symptoms usually settle within 3–5 days, though more serious cases do occur — taking medicine early makes a real difference.

Outer Layer or Light Jacket

If you’re visiting Da Nang between October and February, or planning to visit Ba Na Hills, bring an outer layer or light jacket. Da Nang’s rainy season starts around September — wind picks up and the air feels cool and damp, making shorts and a t-shirt less practical.

Ba Na Hills is a theme park built on a mountain, so temperatures there run cooler regardless of season — roughly 10°C lower than the city below. Pack a light jacket or a slightly thicker top depending on when you’re going.

Comfortable Shoes and Sturdy Sandals

Da Nang’s must-visit attraction, Marble Mountain, is a rocky hill you climb on foot — not stairs, but actual large boulders. Comfortable shoes are essential to avoid slipping. Good footwear matters beyond Marble Mountain too: if you’re visiting a club or Da Nang casino, presentable shoes help at the door.

If you’re spending time at the beach, sturdy sandals like Crocs are a practical choice — the sand in Da Nang gets very hot in the midday sun.

Portable Charger and Dual-Port Charger

A portable battery bank is a practical essential for Da Nang. Google Maps and Grab are indispensable in Vietnam, and if you’re taking day tours to Hoi An or Hue, or joining multi-stop vehicle tours, travel time adds up fast — your phone will be working harder than usual.

Traffic in Vietnam moves slowly. On a four-lane highway the speed limit reaches 80 km/h, dropping to 30 km/h in the city and 60 km/h outside it. Long stretches on the road are common, and you’ll be using your phone throughout. Relying on a single charger is a common regret.

The best setup: a portable battery bank plus a dual-port charger, so you can charge two devices at once. A dual-port charger alone works fine if you prefer to pack light.
