Ho Chi Minh Market: Your Trusted Guide to the Best Markets
Last Updated on 2024/07/10 by Seo
If you visit Vietnam, you’ll likely find yourself exploring a local supermarket at least once.
Whether it’s to buy souvenirs, grab some snacks for your hotel room, or safely purchase exotic Vietnamese fruits that are hard to find back home, local markets are the place to go.
In this post, I’ll introduce three supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City that I personally recommend, chosen from the many available in the city.
Before We Dive into Ho Chi Minh Supermarkets
If you’re visiting Ho Chi Minh City for travel or business, chances are you’ll be staying in District 1 or nearby.
This guide focuses on supermarkets in and around District 1, the city center, that are realistically worth visiting.
While there are larger and newer supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City, you probably don’t want to spend an hour navigating the city’s notorious traffic to get there.
If you’re staying near the airport, I recommend searching for the supermarkets listed below on Google Maps to find the closest one to you.
Annam Gourmet Store

If I had to recommend just one supermarket to visit in Ho Chi Minh City, it would be the Annam Gourmet Store.
Located in the heart of Ho Chi Minh City, this supermarket is highly accessible and specializes in premium ingredients from Europe, the United States, and around the world.
Most of the customers here are expats, especially Westerners, living in the area. You can trust the quality of the cheeses, wines, vegetables, fruits, sauces, coffee, and beverages sold here.

They also offer high-end cheeses, wines, caviar, and foie gras that are hard to find in regular supermarkets, along with catering services for upscale events.
More than just a supermarket, Annam Gourmet also runs a bakery, coffee shop, and restaurant. Many of the staff speak English, and all products are labeled in English.

The biggest downside is that it primarily stocks Western brands, which might be unfamiliar to some visitors. While you can buy fruits, drinks, and bread during your trip, choosing souvenirs can be tricky.
Coffee is the most accessible product here. They offer a wide range of Vietnamese coffee brands, and you can even have your coffee beans ground to your preference on the spot.
You can check out the products and prices on their website.

Co.op Mart

This is a local Vietnamese supermarket chain, comparable to medium-sized supermarkets. I highly recommend Co.op Mart for buying souvenirs.
There’s at least one in every neighborhood in Ho Chi Minh City. While they can’t compete with the size of Lotte Mart, some branches have up to three floors.
The prices are reasonable, and the product range is extensive. It’s one of the most popular supermarkets among locals, so you’ll mostly see Vietnamese shoppers here.
When shopping at local supermarkets, be sure to check the expiration dates, especially on items like wine.

Lotte Mart Ho Chi Minh

Lotte Mart is a large supermarket chain in Ho Chi Minh City that needs no introduction. In addition to Lotte Mart, there are other large supermarkets like Emart, Big C, and AEON Mall from Korea and Japan.
However, these large supermarkets are usually located in areas that are not particularly convenient for tourists.
They are often situated in residential areas or places with cheaper land, and there are usually no tourist attractions nearby.
The Lotte Mart I’m introducing here is relatively accessible from the city center.
