VinWonders Phu Quoc: A Comprehensive Guide and Review

What is VinWonders like?

VinWonders Phu Quoc is an exciting theme park located on Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam.

Consider it as Vietnam’s version of Universal Studios and Disneyland combined.

VinWonders encompasses Vinpearl Safari, Vinpearl Resort, Grand World, and even Vietnam’s largest casino, Corona Casino.

The Vin Group manages the entire tourism industry in northern Phu Quoc.

I think Phu Quoc VinWonders is a polarizing tourist destination, and I will do my best to provide you with easy-to-understand and detailed information and reviews about this location.

I highly recommend those considering visiting VinWonders Phu Quoc read this guide thoroughly.

Vinpearl Land? or VinWonders?

The former name, VinpearlLand Phu Quoc, has been changed to VinWonders. It is the same place.

All VinpearlLands operated by the Vin group in Vietnam have officially changed their brand name to VinWonders. So in this article, we will use the official name VinWonders instead of VinpearlLand.

To get a sense of VinWonders , it’s helpful to look at a map first. The map below is the easiest to understand.

or you can use the detailed maps officially provided by VinWonders.

What to do in VinWonders Phu Quoc?

VinWonders may appear complex, but it’s actually quite simple. It consists of only three main areas.

  • Amusement park
  • Water park
  • Aquarium
  • Strange-shaped buildings

Amusement park

This amusement park takes up the most significant part of VinWonders, with everything from Ferris wheels to roller coasters.

There are about 70 large and small activities, but there aren’t many worth trying. The rides are not all in one place but spread throughout VinWonders.

The biggest drawback of VinWonders can easily be seen in this amusement park. It shows the typical appearance of a ghost amusement park.

There are no people in VinWonders.

VinWonders spans an area equivalent to 93 soccer fields, boasting a remarkable size. Surprisingly, the number of employees surpasses the count of guests within this expansive space, and an astounding 90% of the rides operate without any passengers.

Of course, it depends on when and what time you visit. But whenever you visit, there are almost no people.

Try to find people!

Some people may prefer an empty amusement park. You can ride with just your friends or family and you don’t have to wait.

But if you prefer a bustling and lively amusement park, you will be very disappointed.

There are so few people that when I saw a Ferris wheel employee recording the number of passengers in a notebook, I asked how many people ride per hour. The answer was usually 0-3 people.

The amusement park is not just deserted, it’s depressing.

Most of the rides at VinWonders are for young children. There are almost no attractions for adults to feel thrilled.

Also, because there are no people, the management is a mess. Attractions are stopped and not working. Despite being a non-smoking area, cigarette butts are everywhere.

And there are always some Vietnamese people smoking around the trash cans. Even they walk around smoking from the entrance. In a theme park for kids!

Waterpark

The waterpark is the first thing you’ll see when you walk through the main gates of VinWonders.

It’s pretty self-explanatory: you can swim, there are life jackets and lifeguards, but it’s not a huge part of the VinWonders.

In fact, if you’re visiting VinWonders for the waterpark, you’d be much better off visiting Sunworld Hon Thom Nature Park.

The entrance fee is cheaper, there’s a beach, the rides are more varied, and you can also experience the Phu Quoc Cable Car.

Aquarium

I think the aquarium is what makes VinWonders Phu Quoc worth visiting.

Opened in April 2022, this unique aquarium is shaped like a giant turtle, covering about 8,400 square meters and holding a staggering 20 million tons of water. It takes inspiration from the famous Hoan Kiem Lake in Hanoi.

The aquarium is divided into two main parts.

First, there’s the massive main tank. When you enter the aquarium, you’ll be amazed by the impressive 26-meter-wide and 9-meter-high main tank.

It’s filled with various colorful fish, creating a visually stunning display. You can get a closer look by walking through a tunnel that offers a 360-degree view of the tank.

One of the highlights is the mermaid show, which is exclusive to this tank and a must-see at VinWonders.

Surrounding the main tank are several smaller aquariums. A pathway circles the main tank, leading to five themed areas, each with its own smaller aquarium:

  • Jellyfish Aquarium
  • Shark Aquarium
  • Stingray Aquarium
  • Pufferfish Aquarium
  • Freshwater Fish Aquarium

Although the main tank is impressive, the other aquariums don’t meet expectations. They are smaller and less populated with fish.

The sharks and stingrays are also part of the main tank but are given separate names, which can be misleading.

Furthermore, the children’s area is not well-maintained, resulting in malfunctions and a less enjoyable experience for young visitors.

What about the other areas of VinWonders?

Now, let’s talk about the other sections of VinWonders.

To be honest, they’re not worth your time. These areas consist of empty buildings with no staff, and once you step inside, there’s very little to see.

The games they offer are below par and feel outdated, serving as mere gimmicks to add some variety.

Instead of wasting your time exploring these lackluster attractions and areas, it’s better to save your energy and time to enjoy the rides in the distance again.

VinWonders Phu Quoc Show Times

There are many shows at VinWonders Phu Quoc, but I don’t think it’s worth going out of your way to see them.

Most of them are dance shows. A small group of people dance for about 5 minutes and that’s it.

The only ones worth seeing are the mermaid show and the main Once show. But to see both shows, you have to wait for 3 hours.

How to Purchase VinWonders Phu Quoc Tickets

If you’re planning to visit VinWonders Phu Quoc, here are a few ticket-buying options:

Buy in person

Purchasing tickets on the day of your visit is not recommended as you’ll have to pay the full price.

Buy through an agency site like Klook.

Klook is a popular service for booking tours and tickets worldwide. I recommend using Klook as they offer various coupons, including a 5% discount for your first purchase and refer-a-friend credits.

They also occasionally have special discount coupons. You can compare their prices with the official website.

Buy through the official website.

As of May 2023, the official VinWonders website offers a 5% Welcome coupon. If you don’t use the coupon from Klook, this is the most cost-effective way to purchase tickets.

Opening Hours

  • VinWonders : 09:00 to 19:30
  • Aquarium: 10:00 to 18:00
  • Water Park: 10:00 to 18:00
  • Fantasy World: 09:00 to 19:00

What is the best time to visit VinWonders Phu Quoc?

Another reason why visiting VinWonders can be chaotic is the operating hours.

Almost all major events take place during the day. So, to attend these events, you need to visit either in the morning or during the day;.

However, Phu Quoc can be extremely hot during this time. Attractions that receive sunlight from the morning can feel scorching as soon as you sit down.

Visiting in the evening is not ideal either, as important areas such as the aquarium are closed, and no events are held.

  • If you visit VinWonders early in the morning -> You must quickly explore Vinpearl Safari.
  • If you visit VinWonders after watching Vinpearl Safari -> It is unbearably hot.
  • If you visit in the evening -> All events have ended, and attractions are closed.

Review of VinWonders Phu Quoc

In my honest review, I believe VinWonders Phu Quoc is an overrated tourist attraction in Phu Quoc, lacking substance despite its large size.

It seems like the creators of VinWonders have never visited Universal Studios or Disneyland.

While it may be around 30% cheaper compared to Universal Studios in Japan or Singapore, the overall experience is not half as good.

On the other hand, who would want to go on rides in the dry season when it’s over 40 degrees and it’s raining?

As soon as you walk through the front gate, you can feel the sluggishness.

Phu Quoc BeanWonders is the size of 93 soccer fields combined. No transportation is provided within BeanWonders, so you have to walk all over this large area. It’s hard enough to get around.

To make matters worse, there are very limited places to take a break. Just sitting on a bench with no shade in the sweltering heat is exhausting.

Aside from the shops and restaurants around the entrance, Vin Wonders Phu Quoc attraction is open and doesn’t even have air conditioning.

Personally, if you only have a short amount of time to spend in Phu Quoc, I would recommend skipping Phu Quoc Bean Wonders altogether.
